Bob Bethel, SPHR, SHRM-SCP (bob.bethel@theEA.org)
Vice President – HR and Learning Services
Bob is a graduate of the University of Toledo, with a Bachelor of Education, majoring in English. He began his career at The Andersons in retail management. After many years in retail management, he started his career in Human Resources as the Employment and Recruitment Manager for The Andersons.
Since leaving The Andersons, he has served in Human Resource manager/director positions at S.E. Johnson, Michigan Paving and Materials, St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, The Douglas Company, and Bittersweet Farms. During his career he has also served in leadership capacities of several organizations, including the Toledo Christian Schools Board of Directors, the Toledo Area Human Resource Association (TAHRA), Ohio Human Resource Conference Committee, and the Ohio SHRM State Council, serving as President or Chair of each organization. He is also serving a fifth term as a Springfield Township Trustee. Bob holds a certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) with the Human Resource Certification Institute and SHRM.
Phyllis Cole, SPHR, SHRM-SCP (phyllis.cole@theEA.org)
Senior HR Consultant
Phyllis brings 25+ years of HR experience to the EA, and assists with various projects related to HR. She retired from the Lucas County Common Pleas Court in July 2019 before joining The EA in September 2019. Phyllis is active in the HR Community holding various Officer positions for Northwest Ohio Human Resource Association (NOHRA) including President in 2013. She has been part of the Toledo Area Human Resource Associations’ Conference (THRAC) committee since 2012. In addition Phyllis has been active on the Ohio SHRM State Council’s HR Conference committee since 2015. Phyllis earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toledo and her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Findlay. She attained certification for Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
Mary Gundy (mary.gundy@theEA.org)
Mary has had a great start to the HR world, she began her career at a Fortune 500 Company. She is a graduate from Lourdes University, with a Bachelor’s in Human Resources Management. With her knowledge-hungry brain, she is in the process of getting her PHR and SHRM certifications. As a member of the EA team, Mary assists members with HR Audits, handbook and job description development, and recruitment. She is an active member in the HR community with NOHRA. When not working, Mary enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and furbaby, Ellie. She has a love for reading, sunshine, and boat rides. In the summertime, you can catch her in her garden or in the water!
Chris Henning, SHRM-SCP, CBP (chris.henning@theEA.org)
Senior HR Consultant
Chris brings 30+ years of HR experience to the EA. She has held HR leadership positions in construction, manufacturing, and agriculture organizations. She retired from The Andersons in March 2021 before joining The EA in May 2021. Chris earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Human Resources from the University of Toledo.
For the last 9 years, Chris focused on benefits administration for The Andersons. She has successfully led the Company’s $32M benefits budget by providing cost-effective benefits. She led the benefits integrations for many acquisitions; played a key role in moving the annual Open Enrollment process from paper to online resulting in a huge cost savings for the organization; implemented a new medical carrier and other benefits vendors; and oversaw the wellness program for over 2500 employees. Prior to her role at The Andersons, she worked in a HR management role at Rudolph/Libbe Inc. for 19 years and First Solar for 3 years.
During her career she has also served in leadership capacities of several organizations, including the Toledo Area Human Resource Association (TAHRA), now know as NOHRA, Ohio Human Resource Conference Committee, and the Ohio SHRM State Council, serving as a Board member or as a Committee Chair. Chris holds a certification as a SHRM Senior Certified Professional with the Society for Human Resource Management and is a certified Benefits Professional with WorldatWork.
Colleen House, SHRM-SCP (colleen.house@theEA.org)
Senior HR Consultant
Colleen joined the team in 2018, bringing with her 18+ years’ experience serving in HR operational and leadership roles in manufacturing, retail, healthcare and not-for-profit organizations. She has a broad generalist background including staff development, employee relations & engagement, performance management, recruitment and onboarding, policy development, benefits, FMLA, workers’ comp and more. In her role as an HR consultant with the EA, she uses her experience, perspectives and lessons learned in her various roles to assist EA members with their HR needs. She has a passion for helping to create positive and engaged workplace cultures and brings this to life by aligning an organization’s people strategy to its business strategy.
Colleen is a graduate of The University of Toledo and holds a certification as a SHRM Senior Certified Professional with the Society for Human Resource Management and is a certified PI Talent Optimizer.
