Every employer, no matter the size, has to deal with employee injury, illness, pregnancy or disability, and the problems associated with providing leaves of absence.

Presenters:

Sarah Pawlicki, Esq., Eastman & Smith, Ltd.

Jim Yates, Esq., Eastman & Smith, Ltd.
Further complicating matters, leaves of absence trigger the application of various state and federal laws that seem to mandate overlapping or even contradictory responses by the employer.
This program will shed light on your responsibilities and obligations when an employee’s absence, illness, injury, or disability thrusts you in the middle of many complex federal and state laws including the Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act, and Ohio Workers' Compensation Law.

During this seminar, you will:

  • Identify which law applies and when
  • Discover the interrelationship among leave laws
  • Effectively manage employee leaves of absences without violating the law
  • Gain knowledge of the proposed paid leave legislation
  • Understand the DOL’s recent clarification of FMLA rights and the effect of the U.S. Supreme Court striking down the Defense of Marriage Act
  • Learn about the impact on the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act on your administration of leave programs
