While terms such as “regular work hours”, “employee”, and “paid time” seem pretty straightforward on their surface, they can be the source of a good deal of frustration, indigestion, and headaches for employers.

Join us as the EA’s Bob Bethel, SPHR, SHRM-SCP digs into examples of the not so 9-to-5 work world we all live in and helps make sense of how to pay workers in non-standard situations.

Topics to be explored will include:

  • Is travel time considered work time?
  • Should you pay someone to drive the company vehicle?
  • Are you required to provide paid lunches and breaks?
  • What happens when shift differentials, holiday pay, and overtime collide?
  • Should you pay employees while they’re in training? What about their time driving to the training?
  • How should independent contractors be paid?
  • What about that intern in the marketing department?
  • Can you require an employee to use vacation time during a Family Medical Leave?
  • Do you have to pay an employee for unused vacation time when they quit?
Bring your questions and tell us about your weird situation! Chances are, the person next to you in the seminar will be struggling with something similar.
