Building Civility and Respect – Overcoming Unconscious Bias

Building Civility and Respect – Overcoming Unconscious Bias

A diverse workforce often generates creativity and innovation. Research has shown that more diverse workplaces outperform organizations that aren’t. Leaders must understand the importance of working together with people from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs and know how to celebrate the differences people bring to the workplace.
We all harbor unconscious biases and bring them into the workplace, whether we realize it or not. This training is designed to help individuals recognize and identify their own unconscious bias and learn strategies to overcome it.

Using examples, stories, exercises, and activities, this workshop aims to empower attendees to:

  • Understand the concept of unconscious bias, where does it come from and why does it matter
  • Realize the impact unconscious bias has in the workplace
  • Become more self-aware by reflecting upon personal experiences and uncover how our hidden biases are formed
  • Examine their own in-group and out-group bias
  • Build awareness of micro aggressions (aka “subtle acts of exclusion”) that occur in the workplace and why they threaten workplace inclusion
  • Explore simple steps to reduce bias
  • Create a Personal Action Plan
